When things go bad on a old truck, they go bad in a big way.
I think my Birfield seals are going, i need my front oil pump and front main seal done and I'm probably not far off a head gasket.
900 for the birfs
700 for the seals
2200 for the HG (top end rebuild).
This is in addition to the new vacuum hoses I want
The breather mod
lift
new front seats (mounts and covers)
and sliders.
I'm going to have 2x into this truck what I bought it for soon.
I would tackle this myself, but I literally have no time to do it. Going to be working 12 hours days until the 24th.
Have what I wish my truck looked like for your time.

Apparently, buying an older used truck is similar to buying a used BMW.
TIL.

Unless you get a truly old truck and hardly anything goes wrong.. case and point - after 9 years of sitting, all that was needed on my family's 59' F100 was a brake and clutch master cylinder, new fluids, and brake bleeding, after that it started and drove fine.

My truck is working fine, but I am OCD about maintenance so Im not stranded on a trail with my family.

Sucks. Been there done that. Except I have this weird justification that goes something like this: Well, I've got to spend X on repairs, I may as well spend at least half of X on upgrades and accessories in addition to the repair costs. It makes absolutely no sense, but happens every. single. time.

Makes sense, lol, the 59' is in need of a lot of maintenance, it runs and drives fine and is a complete tank, but it needs a lot of work in the way of restoration.

I feel your pain man, my Disco is leaking on the timing chain cover and I just don't want to do it. I'll probably need a new head gasket at some point but I'd do that myself.
You need to join an off roading/LC club. That way you can scavange parts off other guys when they trash their trucks, that's how I got my garvin rack, ladder, dual battery tray, spare altinator and Hella spot lights for $700 total.

I do. U4WDA is one I was thinking about, they seem to have their stuff together.

also swapmeets, they're awesome. I picked up a brand new MAS for $50 (it's $250 from Land Rover) and an ABS module for free (needs rebuilding).

Cool, make sure they have some insane members though. Ones that go through trucks like they're candy. Those guys are gold mines.

I've picked up a few parted out truck parts, but seals are tough to find, and labor even tougher. The plus is that I have a connection with Toyota so I get employee pricing on parts.

Older Toyota's that do not have a 22R anyway.
